Guy R. Swanson teaches high school Social Studies, particularly American History II (1877 - present) and Civics and Economics, and he has worked for Henderson County Public Schools since 1999.  His education includes a BA from Michigan State University, a MA and and a MLS from The University of Alabama, and a MSA from Western Carolina University.  Prior to his working for HCPS, Mr. Swanson worked as a librarian and archivist in Richmond, Virginia, and as an Instructor at The University of Alabama. 

    Mr. Swanson has deep roots in the Tar Heel state, some of his ancestors arrived and began living in Wilkes County in the 1770s.  In addition to his living in North Carolina, Mr. Swanson has also lived in Alabama, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia.

    Outside of teaching Mr. Swanson enjoys research and writing, and he has authored several articles including those published in Alabama Heritage, Civil War History, Dictionary of Virginia BiographyEncyclopedia of the Confederacy, and The Banker's Art: Studies in Paper Money (London:  The British Museum Press, 1995).  He is also co-author of White House of the Confederacy: An Illustrated History (Glen Allen, Va.:  Cadmus Fine Books, 1993).
