Reflections on Camp: Summer 2013

The first-ever session of Minecraft Pi Camp was awesome! Read the day-by-day reflections below.

Some general explanations and reflections on this experience:

There are some ideas you have that sound great when you first come up with them, but you're not always able to visualize the details inside the big idea. This camp was one of those for me. When I first heard about the Pi Edition of Minecraft, I knew it had the potential to be something special. The opportunity to teach a week-long summer camp through Honey Creek's Summer Camp was too good to pass up, so I started planning and outlining how I might do this.

What we ended up with was a week where campers would get their very own Raspberry Pi computer, and would learn how to program in Python, get experience with general computer maintenance and setup, and collaborate in the Minecraft world. The day-by-day reflections above tell the story of how that all worked out. Suffice it to say, it was one of the most rewarding experiences in my teaching career so far.
