A Letter to My Traveling Companions & A Photographer's Prayer
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light”: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Genesis 1:1-4 (King James Version)
Dear Fellow Sojourner,
I thank God for light. It is my quill and brush, my words and pigments. With it I tell stories and speak without language. When I capture the moments I do, I am thinking of you. When you look at those same moments, think of me, and we will spend those moments together. You are my traveling companion and fellow adventurer. Though you may never tread the same ground on which I did, please know that we have walked those same paths as friends.
Each and every life is an epic. Our epics, yours and mine, have intersected and are now a part of each other. God made the eyes the most expressive feature of our faces. We share smiles and sadness with them, and with them we observe the world. With my eyes I hope to express as much as I can, even when I have ceased to see. They are yours through which to view the world. I pray that you see it as I do.
