ZERO Tax Impact!

PROBLEM
THE HAZLET TOWNSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAS AGING FACILITIES THAT WE HAVE BEEN IMPROVING ANNUALLY FOR THE LAST FIFTEEN YEARS, BUT THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION NO LONGER PROVIDES FUNDING FOR OUR PROJECTS.

SOLUTION
A REFERENDUM WILL ALLOW THE DISTRICT TO ISSUE BONDS AND RECEIVE STATE AID TOWARD THE ANNUAL PAYMENTS. THE DISTRICT WILL USE THE CURRENT ANNUAL FACILITY BUDGET TO FUND THE BALANCE OF THE BONDS.

RESULT
THE HAZLET TOWNSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL MAKE $43.7 MILLION OF FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS AND THE TAXPAYERS OF HAZLET WILL EXPERIENCE ZERO INCREASE IN THEIR TAXES AS A RESULT OF THE REFERENDUM.
Overview
This referendum will enhance the learning environment for years to come.  On December 13, 2016 a referendum will take place that will secure funding through a 20 year bond that will enable our district to update our facilities.
The improvements will include:
  • new heating systems and air conditioning for all of the classrooms in the district
  • replacing older roofs on many of our schools
  • new windows for any classrooms that have not been already replaced
  • bathroom renovations
  • updating the doors, lighting and ceilings in our classrooms
  • updating the parking lots and other needed site renovations
