National Tropical Botanical Garden

Kauai Community College and the National Tropical Botanical Garden will continue their joint “Seeds of Thought” public lecture series on Tuesday, October 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the Kauai CC Cafeteria. Erick Lux, NTBG Horticultural Manager, will present "Building Your Own Radical but Responsible Garden”, in which he will challenge common notions of tropical gardening. Mr. Lux will discuss gardening with nature rather than against it, no matter what the micro-climate is. Online Distance Education degree completion program

The Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work has partnered with the Outreach College to offer a new online Distance Education degree completion program beginning in the Fall of 2018. The program is open to those who live outside of the metropolitan Honolulu area, and have completed the General Education Core Requirements as well as the Bachelor of Social Work Program Knowledge Base. An information session about the program will be held on Friday, October 6 from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kauai Community College Learning Resource Center Room 124B. Kauai CC Financial Aid Office

The Kauai CC Financial Aid Office announces that the 2018-19 Financial Aid Form (FAFSA) launched on October 1 and will remain in effect for the current year. The U.S. Department of Education will require 2016 tax information on the form. Contact: Roxanne Carvalho (808) 245-8360.

University of Hawaii President David Lassner announced in September that his office will continue the current UH policy of offering in-state tuition rates to undocumented immigrants at all UH-system campuses. Contact: (808) 956-7651.

Continuing Education and Training (OCET)

  • Are you ready to travel to Japan? Wish you knew some of the most common phrases and questions you need to communicate? The Kauai CC Office of Continuing Education and Training (OCET) will offer “Japanese for the Busy Traveler”, a nine-hour course which will cover commonly used words and phrases.
  • OCET will also offer “Landlords, Tenants and the Law: Know Before You Act”, a three-hour course designed for landlords, tenants and property managers seeking to understand the practicalities of renting property on Kauai.
  • Recreational Thrill Craft Operation will be offered by OCET on Saturday, October 21. Participants will learn about local ocean safety principles and practices; historical, cultural, and customary practices of Hawaii’s ocean users; and rules regarding protected species and thrill craft operation in Hawaii. All recreational thrill craft operators in Hawaii are required to complete a certification class on the safe use and operation of a thrill craft.
