History Day 2009 - September 12, 2009

Dore Minatodani introduced and demonstrated Chronicling America to 26 Hawaii State Dept. of Education teachers on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The event provided training and a continuing education opportunity for DOE teachers, in preparation for History Day 2010.

In support of this year's History Day theme, "Innovation in History: Impact and Change," the sample topic, the undersea Pacific cable that brought telegraphic communication to Hawaii, retrieved newspaper articles from San Francisco, Sacramento, St. Paul, Omaha, New York, Houston, Salt Lake City, and of course Honolulu.

The DOE's "Teaching American History" project hosted the event and, with the Hawaii Council for the Humanities, co-sponsored it.

The slides for the presentation are available in the attachments below.
