Elementary Spanish I
This is a 4 credit course.  It is the first of 4 Spanish courses which can be used to fulfill the 4 semester language requirement at any college or university including the UH system.  This is also a Running Start class. This course is available as an onsite class and a distance class.

Text: web access code for Portales chapters 1-5. 
  • Both the onsite and distance classes use the same website. 
  • The access code will not be available in the bookstore. Details on how to order will be in Laulima, including a link to the custom order site.

SPAN 101, on site at Kauai CC
This class meets 2 days per week (Tues & Thurs) in a classroom with computers.
  • Students will submit online assignments during class.  They will complete all voice recording activities in class with the instructor, and work on writing exercises. They will finish the online assignments on their own time. 
  • Assignments will be due on Tues, Thurs and Sat at midnight Hawaii time.
SPAN 101, WWW  This is the online version of the above class.  
  • All assignments will be submitted online.
  • Assignments will be due 3 days each week, starting with the first week of class.
  • Assignments will be due on Tues, Thurs and Sat at midnight Hawaii time.
  • Distance students will have to submit voice recordings. 
  • Students must take the chapter tests at either a university test center or similar, or use ProctorU, an online proctoring service that charges a fee.
  • Students who are unable to 'meet' during office hours can make chat appointments with the instructor as needed for additional help with the assignments.
Intermediate Spanish I, SPAN 201WWW 
  • This is a 3 credit course.  It is the third of 4 Spanish courses which can be used to fulfill the 4 semester language requirement at any college or university, including the UH system.

  • Assignments will be due twice a week, starting with the first week of class.  They will be due on Wed. and Sun. at midnight Hawaii time.
  • Students will submit voice recordings.
  • Students must take the chapter tests at either a university test center or similar, or use ProctorU, an online proctoring service that charges a fee.

There will be an orientation meeting scheduled the first week of classes for students on Kauai. DL students can participate via Google Chat. Details will be posted in Laulima.

Students who are unable to 'meet' during office hours can make chat appointments with the instructor as needed for additional help with the assignments.

Intermediate Spanish II, SPAN 202WWW. This is an online class. Students do not need to attend any classes at Kauai CC.
  • This is a 3 credit course.  It is the forth of 4 Spanish courses which can be used to fulfill the 4 semester language requirement at any college or university, including the UH system.
  • This is a online course that has assignments due twice a week, starting with the first week of class.  They will be due on Wed. and Sun.  All assignments are submitted online.
  • Students will submit voice recordings.  One or two web camera chats with the instructor may be assigned.
  • Students must take the chapter tests at either a university test center or similar, or use ProctorU, an online proctoring service that charges a fee.
  • Students who are unable to 'meet' during office hours can make chat appointments with the instructor as needed for additional help with the assignments.
  • Students can attend 'Spanish Lab' either onsite or online; see details below.

  • Student who took the following from Kauai CC and purchased the 24 month access code do not need a new access code: SPAN 201 last semester, SPAN 102 the previous semester, SPAN 101 the previous semester.
Spanish Lab
  • Lab time at Kauai CC will be scheduled for students who would like to meet onsite with the instructor; students will work on recordings, written exercises, and get help from the instructor as needed.
  • Students will meet in a classroom at Kauai CC and submit online assignments during the lab. They can complete voice recording activities with the instructor, and work on writing exercises. They will finish the online assignments on their own time. 
  • Students should bring a laptop. Notify the instructor if you will need to borrow one for use in the lab.
  • Students can attend the lab as needed; they do not need to come when it starts and stay to the end; they can drop in anytime during the schedule lab. Students do not have to attend all labs. The lab is being offered to give additional support to students.
  • Students who cannot attend a lab in person can attend virtually by using the CHAT feature in Portales or UH mail chat.
  • Students who submit help and review my score requests in Portales during lab time should get a reply during that time, or shortly after the end.
  • Lab time is available for all students from any level.
ORIENTATION
