Fall 2015

Elementary Spanish I
This is a 4 credit course.  It is the first of 4 Spanish courses which can be used to fulfill the 4 semester language requirement at any college and university including the UH system.  This is also a Running Start class. This course is available as an onsite class and a distance class.

Text: web access code for Portales chapters 1-5. 
  • Both the onsite and distance classes use the same website. 
  • Details on how to order will be in Laulima, including a link to the custom order site.
SPAN 101, MW 1000-1050a and TR 0925-1015a.  This class meets 4 days per week
  • Students who are unable to attend either MW or TR can attend only MW or TR and submit assignments as a distance student for the days they can not attend in person. These students should register in the onsite section. 
  • Students will meet in a computer lab and submit online assignments during class.  They will complete all voice recording activities in class with the instructor, and work on writing exercises. They will finish the online assignments on their own time. 
SPAN 101,WWW  This is the online version of the above class.  
  • All assignments will be submitted online.
  • Assignments will be due 4 days each week.
  • Distance students will have to submit voice recordings. There are 3 types of recordings: 
    • individual recordings;
    • chats with a computer generated virtual partner;
    • Approximately 1 partner chat per week which will require a partner from class for paired voice recordings using a webcam. 
  • Distance students will find a partner at the beginning of the semester to use for the partner chat activities; instructions will be in Laulima.
  • There will be an orientation meeting scheduled the first week of classes for students on Kauai. DL students can participate via Google Chat, Skype or similar. Details will be posted in Laulima.
  • Students who are unable to 'meet' during office hours can make weekly chat appointments with the instructor as needed for additional help with the assignments.
Intermediate Spanish I, SPAN 201, WWW 
  • This is a 3 credit course.  It is the third of 4 Spanish courses which can be used to fulfill the 4 semester language requirement at any college or university, including the UH system.
  • This is a online class that has assignments due twice a weekAll assignments (written and voice recordings) are submitted online.
  • Students will submit voice recordings. There are 3 types of recordings: 
  1. individual recordings;
  2. chats with a computer generated virtual partner;
  3. Approximately 1 partner chat per week which will require a partner from class for paired voice recordings using a webcam.
      • Students will find a partner at the beginning of the semester to use for the partner chat activities; instructions will be in Laulima.
      • Students are encouraged to use the same partner from last semester, if both are in the class this semester.

Spring 2016 - Tentative

Elementary Spanish II
This is a 4 credit course.  It is the second of 4 Spanish courses which can be used to fulfill the 4 semester language requirement at any college or university including the UH system.  This is also a Running Start class. This course is available as an onsite class and a distance class.
