Getting Started

 Topic Objective

Prepare to begin the course.

Welcome to Business 101 - Business Computer Systems. Your instructor, Rachael Inake (section 52274) or Greg Walker (section 52272), have combined our classes together to create a community of inquiry. To get ready for the course, please complete what is listed in the Activities section below. We strongly suggest that you begin to work on your activities early in the week to give yourself enough time to learn and do your best work. Ask questions early if you run into problems.

 Topic Summary

Taking an online course is different from a traditional face-to-face course. You need to be responsible for your own learning and keep yourself on task. It is important to prepare and orient yourself before you begin this course to have a successful learning experience. In addition to reading the tentative course syllabus and course schedule (available in the Laulima > Syllabus tool), please carefully review the following:

Come to our optional BUS 101 course orientation on Saturday, August 18 from 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM at Leeward CC, room BE-229. In this session, you will get to learn more about the course and ask your questions.

There are two ways you can attend on Saturday, August 18 from 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM:

  1. In-person at Leeward CC in BE-229, or
  2. Online in Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing platform

If you join us in-person, we will be in a computer lab (BE-229), but you may want to bring your laptop to make sure you have it setup properly and your course materials.

If you choose to join us online in Blackboard Collaborate, follow these steps to get setup prior to Saturday's session. On Saturday morning, to join us online, log into the BUS 101 Inake and Walker web conferencing room to join our live session, about 10-15 minutes early if you can, to get setup.

If you cannot join us in-person or online, we will record the session and post the link to the recording which you can view later.

Sign-up and reserve your seat. We look forward to seeing you.
