Lauren R. Kaiser
Research Scientist

After graduating from the University of Maryland - College Park in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Geographical Sciences,  I moved to Hawaiʹi to continue my academic career in graduate school.  I recently graduated from the Department of Geography at the University of Hawaiʹi at Mānoa with my Master of Arts degree.   My master's thesis focused on understanding the changes in extreme rainfall events across the state of Hawaiʹi in relation to Kona Low subtropical cyclone storm systems.  Since graduating, I have been working as a contracted scientific researcher for the USGS Pacific Islands Ecosystems Research Center.  In collaboration with other researchers, I am working towards understanding the future impacts of climate change on native Hawaiian forest bird species distributions.

My research interests include climatology, ecology, environmental sciences, extreme events, and tropical storms.
