Welcome to 7th grade math at Hunking! This will be a very exciting and challenging year for all of you. I am happy to have your child in my math class. 7th grade students will follow the curriculum listed in the curriculum maps (http://www.haverhill-ps.org/curriculum-department/mathematics/)

In math class students participate in many group work assignments. Students are graded for in-class assignments on how well they work with other students and effort that is put into the assignments. All students should have a graph-paper notebook, a 2-pocket folder, colored pencils, scissors, glue sticks, and a supply of pencils and erasers.

Throughout the year, students will be given Portfolio Problems. These problems are designed to challenge the students and take their problem-solving to a higher level. Portfolio problems will be stored in a problem solving folder in the classroom.

MCAS is very important. Every Thursday, students are given an MCAS type problem which is a question from a previous or sample test.  Students get time to solve alone and in partners.  We review strategies and answers as a class.  These problems are counted as Class Participation.
