Lateral entry is an alternate route to enter the teaching vocation by meeting certain requirements.  These requirements are (1) minimum of a bachelor's degree and (2) agreeing to complete an approved teacher education program from a regionally accredited college, university, or the Regional Alternative Licensing Center (RALC) within three years.

Individual plans of study are prescribed by either a college, university or the RALC for lateral entry teachers who must complete the necessary educational coursework (and other requirements) within three years for a professional educator’s license while teaching.
