The Choirs at Harmony

There are three levels of choir programs at Harmony ISD:

SIXTH GRADE CHOIR: A training choir consisting of students in sixth grade.  The curriculum consists of singing and music reading activities which train students to be successful choir students in the Jr. High School Choir and the High School Choir.  Sixth grade students learn correct posture and breathing techniques, correct vocal production techniques, ear-training and other listening skills, music history, singing in two-part treble, sight-singing techniques in all major and minor keys and performance skills including simple choreography.

JUNIOR HIGH MIXED CHOIR: A training choir consisting of students in seventh and eighth grades.  The curriculum consists of singing and music reading activities as well as performance activities which train students to be successful choir students in the High School Choir.  Jr. High Choir students learn correct posture and breathing techniques, correct vocal production techniques, ear-training and other listening skills, music history, singing in four-parts (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass), sight-singing in all major and minor keys and performance skills including simple choreography.  Junior High Choir students participate in all school choir concerts and shows and region contests and concerts.

HARMONY HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR: High School Choir members are in training to perform for contests, concerts, and shows.  They continue their studies in vocal production, ear-training, sight-singing, music history, choreography, and performance.  High school choir students attend All-Region contests and concerts.  They are the main performers for all concerts and shows,  They advance to State Solo/Ensemble contests and eventually many go on to win choir scholarships and major in vocal performance or music education in college.
