Annual Fund

Please join the other families in your class and make your tax-deductible gift to the Annual Fund today! Currently about 40% of our families have participated. Our goal is for 100% participation from families.

Save the Date for a Donor Party! Saturday, April 29, 2017. All donors who have made a gift of $500 or more by April 10 will be invited to a fun evening to celebrate Harford Day hosted by an HDS board member.

Golf Tournament - May 22, 2017 at MGCC

Do you have a raffle or an auction item you would like to donate? The golf committee would love to hear from you! So far the raffle/auction will include an OC ocean front condo, a family photo session with April Stites, a hot air balloon ride for 4, jewelry from Saxons, a Stella and Dot basket, a 30 day unlimited pass to True Cycling just to name a few.

Organ Donation Awareness

April is National Donate Life month. 118,000 men, women, and children await lifesaving organ transplants. One person can save up to eight people with organs, and countless others with tissue and eye donations. To increase awareness of organ donation, middle school students are allowed to dress down in blue and green on Friday, April 28, to celebrate the Gift of Life.

Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test - Grades 6-7

The Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test will be administered to students in Grades 6 and 7 today, April 26 and tomorrow, April 27 during class time. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. LaFreda Smith (Math Department Chair) or Dr. William Matsuzaki (Middle School Head).

April Conferences Grades 1-5

April conferences are scheduled for tomorrow, April 27 from 5:00-8:30 p.m. and Friday, April 28 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Students in Grades 1-5 will not have school on Friday, April 28.  You received a message via Constant Contact last Friday, April 7 with a link to sign up for a conference with your child's teachers. If you haven’t yet scheduled your conferences, click HERE to open the Sign-Up Genius link and sign up for conferences. Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day is coming Friday, May 12

Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day is Friday, May 12, from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.  School will begin for all students at 9:00 A.M.  Extended Day coverage will begin as always at 7:15 A.M., but students are encouraged to arrive later if possible.  It is a wonderful day for your children to spend with their grandparents or a special family friend.  They will be able to attend classes and enjoy a continental breakfast. 


Invitations have been mailed to all current Grandparents. If you have a Special Friend who you'd like us to invite, please contact Carla Mattioli in the Office of Advancement at  Shuttle buses will run from the American Legion on Hickory Avenue.

Greece Trip Meeting

There will be a meeting on Tuesday, May 16 at 3pm in the MS Commons for all those attending the trip to Greece. Dr. Palinkas will distribute a packing list, an information packet, and answer final questions as we prepare for our exciting trip to Greece!  Please bring the parent letter ready to be notarized.  If you are unable to attend, or have any additional questions, please contact Jen Palinkas at

Sewing & Fashion Camp at HDS

Sewing & Fashion Camp coming to HDS July 31 to August 4, from 8:30-12:30, taught by HDS mom, Christa Gagliano. Ms. Gagliano holds a BA from Goucher College in Historic Preservation & Art, brings 20 years of art teaching experience, and assisted in designing and creating the complex creatures and costumes in the HDS’s fall play, “A Wrinkle in Time.”

Students will learn to sketch, construct, and sew elements of an original fashion design based on a “costume masquerade” theme. Machine sewing, hand sewing, and other creative techniques will be introduced. Camp culminates in a fashion show/exhibit on August 4.

The cost is $270.00 per student. A minimum of 10 participants is required to hold the camp, with a maximum enrollment of 15. Please use this link to register by May 3 so we can begin planning.

2017-2018 School Supplies

The 2017-2018 school supply list is available on our website for grades K-Prep through 8th grade. Harford Day School is pleased to offer online ordering of preapproved school supply kits again this year through Schoolkidz (1st grade through 8th only). The online portal is now active and will be available through May 19, 2017. No orders will be accepted after May 19, 2017. This convenient option not only saves you the hassle of back to school shopping, but it also helps raise money for HDS. To access the online portal, click here our account number is 47932. Camp HDS 2017

Summer camp registration is open and spaces are filling quickly.  Camp HDS features field trips, swimming, before care, after care, and endless summer fun. We will offer four, one week, sessions from July 10 - August 4.  Camp HDS is open to all children at HDS and in the community, ages 3 through rising 5th grade.  

*Service Learning:  The Dragon Trainer program is offered to rising 6th and 7th grade students.  This program combines your child's favorite camp activities and field trips with an introductory service-learning component. Counselor in Training (CIT) opportunities are offered to rising 8th-12th grade students.  All interested CIT's must register online to reserve a space, which is limited each week.

Summer Opportunities at HDS

Intensity FUNdamental Basketball Summer Camp and British Soccer Camp are offering programs at HDS this summer. Intensity FUNdamental Basketball camp dates are June 19-23, June 26-30, July 10-14, July 17-21, July 24-28, and July 31-August 4. British Soccer Camp dates are July 31-August 4. Johns Hopkins Physics Fair

The Johns Hopkins Annual Physics Fair is this Saturday, April 29, 11:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. There are hands-on demonstrations, activities for all ages, individual and team competitions, a scavenger hunt and more! It is free and open to the public.

Celebration of Cultures

Harford County is hosting its 8th Annual Celebration of Cultures Saturday, May 6th 10 AM to 6 PM with activities and entertainment along Main Street at the Armory and Bel Air Library, and in Festival Park. See Flyer for more information.

Art Supplies for the Boys and Girls Club

Aidan Feulner is collecting art supplies for the Boys and Girls Club. Collection boxes will be located in front of the library and in Dr. Matsuzaki's office starting Monday March 6. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated!

Manna House Collections

As you may remember from previous years, Harford Day runs an annual food drive to collect canned goods and other non-perishable foods to support Manna House in Bel Air.  Each grade has been assigned a specific month to bring in their donations.  We welcome and encourage any and all donations of the following needed items: canned vegetables, canned fruits, peanut butter, jelly, canned meats, and other non-perishable foods.  All foods can be dropped off in front of the library in the designated collection trunk.  Thank you so much for contributing to this worthy cause.

Parent Association April Meeting Notes

Please see the attached for details regarding the April Parent Association meeting. Special thanks to William Matsuzaki, Middle School Head, and LaFreda Smith, Math Chair and Diversity Coordinator for their presentation on diversity at Harford Day School.

Boxtops are rolling in! In the lead is 1st grade with 324, followed by 5th grade with 241, and 2nd grade with 233.  There are still a couple of weeks to go until the May 12th deadline. Remember to label them with your child's name, grade, and homeroom teacher to count towards their totals. Thank you for participating!
