Welcome to Mr. Stone’s 5th grade class!
This year, we are trying something new! Mr. Stone is teaching the STEM classes (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), while Ms. Hareld is teaching the humanities classes (reading, writing, spelling, and social studies). We are excited to work together to create a rich and engaging fifth grade year for our students.
A few reminders:
Please make sure your child is prepared for a day of adventure and learning. Sneakers are necessary on P.E. days, and proper clothing for recess is a must.
Be on the lookout for math homework Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, (with most Wednesday assignments due on Friday.
Spelling units run Wednesday to Wednesday. Students have the following assignments due on a weekly basis:
Dear Parents – Due Each Thursday
Spelling Packet – Due each Tuesday
Review Page – Due each Wednesday
Spelling Books – Due each Wednesday
Spelling Tests -Each Wednesday
Also, each night we ask that students read for approximately 30 minutes. Please let us know if you have any questions!
A little bit about me…
At an early age, I was instilled with the knowledge that if you can read, you can do anything! With a terrible sense of humor, and a background in math, science, and music, I try to find engaging ways to teach students reading, writing, and arithmetic. On a daily basis, you could drop by and see students playing guitar during recess, finding an approximation of pi, or improving their writing skills, (but not all three at once).
I believe that students should be involved in creating their classroom learning environment. Each year, students develop guidelines for the classroom, which are posted on the board as you enter the room. If the need arises, we also have a classroom council, which meets to make decisions about the class, when necessary.
