8th Grade Transition Information was updated as of January 13, 2017.
School Counselors from the high school will meet with 8th grade students during English classes on January 26th and 27th. Students will have an opportunity to learn more about course selection, the Dresden Plan, and the high school schedule. Students will receive a course selection sheet (see attachment below) that will need to be returned to Ms. Kares (sub for Mrs. Powers) or Mr. LaCrosse with a parent signature, no later than March 3, 2017. (Please do not complete the forms prior to the meeting with counselors). Families should use course placement recommendations to make placement selections for foreign language, math, and science (see attached course registration instructions and course selection forms). Placement letters will be sent to families at the end of February.If students or parents have any questions about course selections, placements, or high school transition, please do not hesitate to contact the guidance office at RMS. All 8th grade students will take math placement tests in the morning on Thursday, January 19th and science placement will be in class on February 13th. French and Spanish placement tests will take place in class on February 6th and 7th. Please read the attached letters to parents regarding placement tests.
The 8th grade parent meeting on course selections will be at HHS February 8, 2017 at 6:30 PM in the Auditorium. Members of each department at the high school will give an overview of courses offered and the academic program. There will also be a meeting for 8th grade parents of students in special education about the special education transition process. Learning specialists will be in touch with families with additional information.
8th grade students will work in conjunction with School Counselors from HHS to complete course registration in the computer lab in early March. We are in the early stages of planning a visit for all 8th grade students to HHS for Spring 2017.
