PRESS RELEASE

Smarter Balanced Assessment Results

Hampstead’s Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Ms. Doris Buco, is pleased to share the public release of the Spring 2016 Smarter Balanced (SBAC) statewide assessment results for grades 3-8.  Hampstead 3rd through 8th grade students outperformed the state average for students meeting or exceeding achievement standards in both English Language Arts and Mathematics.  On average, Hampstead students in grades 3-8 who met or exceeded the achievement standards increased from 72% to 81% in English Language Arts and from 60% to 66% in Mathematics since 2015.

Administration and teachers will now begin analyzing this newly released data to determine how Hampstead students are progressing in relation to the rigorous New Hampshire College and Career Ready Standards and how well students are mastering the necessary skills to be successful at the next grade level.  According to Ms. Buco, "These results, in addition to classroom assessments and the i-Ready and DIBELS assessments, guide staff in planning and adjusting instruction to better meet students’ needs, to evaluate curriculum, to identify professional development needs, and to determine achievement of  school and district goals.  Additional assessment results will be presented to the School Board and community at the Board’s November 15 meeting.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Wilson states, “We are very pleased with the results shown and attribute the improvements to the continued instructional focus of our talented teachers.”
