Lopez's Basic Rules of Life That Teens Need to Know

 

 

                      Rule No. 1: People should try to be fair but life isn’t. Get used to it.

                      Rule No. 2: The real world won’t care about your self-esteem. It’ll expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself.

 Rule No. 3: Sorry, you won’t make $70,000 a year right out of high school. And you won’t be a vice president or have anyone care about your self-esteem  either.

                       Rule No. 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait ’til you get a boss.

                       Rule No. 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping. They called it opportunity.

                       Rule No. 6: If you mess up it’s not your parents’ fault. So don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

  Rule No. 7: Before you were born your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way paying your bills, cleaning up your room, and listening  to you tell them how                     idealistic you are. And by the way, before you save the rain forest from the blood-sucking parasites of your parents’  generation, try cleaning the closet in your                                 bedroom.In fact, clean your whole room!

 Rule No. 8: Some schools may have done away with winners and losers. Life hasn’t. Some adults might give you as many times as you want to get
                    the anwer right. This, of course, bears not the slightest resemblance to anything in real life.

 Rule No. 9: Life is not divided into semesters, and you don’t get summers off. They expect you to show up every day. For eight hours. It just goes on and on.                     

                   Also, very few employers are interested in fostering your self-expression or helping you "find yourself."

 Rule No. 10: Television is not real life. Your problems will not all be solved in 30 minutes, minus time for commercials. In real life, people actually have to                        

                    leave the apartment or coffee shop to go to jobs.

                      Rule No. 11: Be nice to nerds. You may end up working for them. We all could.

                      Rule No. 12: Smoking does not make you look cool. It makes you look moronic.

 Rule No. 13: Being drunk or high is only funny to others who are drunk or high. The rest of us think you’re obnoxious idiots.

 Rule No. 13: You are not funny- People who are obnoxious and make assumptions about their “funny behavior” are called - unemployed.

 Rule No. 14: Repetitive work is called practice by those who want to succeed. It’s called “busy work” by those who are lazy.

 Rule No. 15: Reality T.V. isn't real. No one care what stupid things you've done. And NO ONE wants to hear you narrate everything you do. You're not that                         

                           exciting.

                        Rule No. 16: I care about you, I don't care about your excuses.
                        Rule No. 17: People in real life have to learn how to follow directions - and get it right the first time.
                        Rule No. 18: Don't be late - No one care about the upteenth time you were late. Late people are taken less seriously and end up being UNEMPLOYED
                        Rule No. 19: Most of the time you should DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD. Your parents do. They pay their taxes, they obey the laws, they do what their                                                        
                                                bosses say because they are told to do so. No one has to explain everything to you- or justify why they need you to do : homework, drive the                                                     
                                                 speed limit, treat others with respect, realize bad behavior isn't rewarded (see rule #15).
                         Rule No. 20: How do you know when to take a "stand" and ask questions? That comes with time - you have to pay attention, get good grades, work really                                                    
                                                  hard, succeed, fail, fall down and get back up. Its called wisdom. You don't deserve it - you earn it.
                         Rule No. 21: If you're coming to school at 7  or  8 O'clock in the MORNING and you're already under the influence. YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. Get some                                                    
                                                serious help.
                         Rule No. 22 : If you ask me once you are confirming your understanding. If you asked me twice you want clarification. If you ask me three times                                              
                                            you don't care and you' don't work here anymore.
                         Rule No. 23: Real leaders don't ask for permission
                         Rule No. 24: You can't coach aggression, you can't teach leadership, you can't make anyone do something they're not born with.
                         Rule No. 25: If you don't take yourself seriously neither will I. 
                         Rule No. 26:  I don't care how tough you think you are, no one is as tough as LIFE. 
                         Rule No. 27: It isn't about how hard you can hit. It's about how hard you can GET HIT and keep moving forward. How much can you TAKE and keep moving forward?
                         Rule No. 28: EVERYONE ISN'T SUPPOSED TO GET A TROPHY. You have to lose sometime, no one is doing you any favors by giving you something you didn't earn. 
                         Rule No. 29: Act your age not your shoe size.
                         Rule No. 30: Those people who READ will own the 21st Century. You have no idea how important reading is - you know why? Because you don't read. 
                         Rule No. 31: Your parents aren't stupid, THEY KNOW YOU'RE LYING. They just can't believe you lie about the dumbest things. Or you would betray them like that.
                         Rule No. 32: EVERYONE ISN'T ON THEIR  OWN JOURNEY. We live together, we love each other, we exist among everyone. We are on our own journey TOGETHER.
                         Rule No. 33: Now about this "On our own journey thing." Selfish self centered people use that excuse to do something they want to do rather than what they should do. Its the 
                                                 difference between making a decision and making the RIGHT decision. They harder path that should be taken. You know the difference? Making the harder more 
                                                 correct decision CAUSE LESS PAIN AND DAMAGE AND HURTS LESS PEOPLE and causes you to work harder.  It will engage you in self sacrifice 
                                                 for the greater good. It will teach you to become a true man and a true woman. 
                         Rule No. 34: Lopez is full of it.
                         Rule No. 35: Run away from people who try to give advice, the wisest are the quietest, the ones you should listen to will tell you to ignore them, the ones that know what they're
                                                 talking about are the most damaged.
                         Rule No. 36: You don't get old being a fool.
                         Rule No. 37: Your parents used to be cool- then they had you...
                         Rule No. 38: You're not tired, you're not overworked,  you're not stressed. You're not a parent. You have no idea what you're talking about. Once you realize that you begin the
                                                 journey to maturity.
                         Rule No. 39: It's all about love. With out that, nothing else matters. Not money, not possessions, not power NOTHING. 
                         Rule No. 40: You lose your car keys? Your folder? You lost some money? That's not loss, that's frustration and inconvenience. True LOSS is about permanency and pain. It 
                                                leaves its mark deep in you. It takes years for you to understand and grow past it. It gives you wisdom you didn't ask for and a vision that you didn't want to see.
                                                 Not everyone will survive but everyone is forever marked. 
                         Rule No. 41: It doesn't get better with the passage of time, you just learn to live with it.
                         Rule No. 42: Newton's 3rd law is true: For every action, there is an equal an opposite reaction.
                         Rule No. 43: Farting is proof of God's sense of humor. 
                         Rule No. 44: All guys are dumb. It's a defense mechanism.
