How to use this site

This site is intended to provide teachers with literacy resources and strategies to help students improve their reading, writing, and comprehension skills. This site should be used within the context of a CTE course.

The "Resources for Informational Text" page will direct you to two of the Grossmont Union High School District's main resource database collections: The "Virtual Library Learning Commons," and "Follett Destiny." Both of these databases can be searched by topic, keyword, industry sector, etc. to provide you the tools to create meaningful literacy lessons for your class.

The "Resources for Literacy Strategies" page has a sizable collection of activities and strategies that will help boost student engagement and create memorable lessons to enhance student achievement.

The "Sponge, Speaking & Listening, and Vocab. Building Activities" page has another table of links designed to better engage student with text in a variety of activities.

The "Resources for Writing in CTE Classes" page includes templates for informational text (and their grading rubrics), as well as templates for persuasive writing (and their rubrics). These are based on work done by the Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC). Also on this page is a folder containing literacy tasks developed by CTE Teachers in the Grossmont District during the 2013-14 school year.

Some examples of articles being used in different CTE classes are provided on the last page.
