Vimy Week 2017

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the First World War, Black Gold Regional Schools (BGRS) is excited to announce The Vimy Ridge Canadian Heritage Tour scheduled for March 24th to April 2nd, 2017. The eight BGRS high schools from across the division are currently working collaboratively to organize, for spring 2017, this once in a lifetime opportunity for students to experience living history.

The vision of this authentic experience is to heighten student understanding of the role Canadians played in WWI. Students in grades 11 and 12 of the 2017 school year (currently enrolled in grades 9 and 10) will have the remarkable opportunity to travel to Western European Canadian heritage destinations. Some of these historically significant locations will include Vimy Ridge, Dieppe, Ypres, Juno Beach, Paris and Brussels.

This unprecedented Division-wide international experience will involve a large number of students from all of our communities throughout the BGRS region.

“Many historians and writers consider the Canadian victory at Vimy a defining moment for Canada, when the country emerged from under the shadow of Britain and felt capable of greatness.”  Tim Cook
