The Goldendale School District receives supplemental funds through the Title I, Part A grant.  One of the initiatives of this grant is to support parents and families’ ability to stay informed and develop successful partnership with the school.  There are many opportunities to stay involved and informed.  Parents are encouraged to contact their building Principals and Special Programs Coordinator with questions.  Parents are invited to participate in and attend their appropriate school’s Leadership team meetings, attend the bi-annual Parent and Family Engagement meetings and support PTO events.  Parents and guardians are entitled to be informed of their rights and the process for Title I complaints.   If your concern was not addressed by the Special Programs Coordinator or Principal please contact OSPI 360.725.6100 or mail your complaint to Citizen Complaint – Title I, Part A Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, P.O. Box 47200, Olympia, WA 98504.  If you are interested in more information the OSPI website can be located at

We are learning about Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood.

Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood means that it is better to listen first and talk second. This habit is best approached by introducing listening as a skill-something that should be practiced. Simply put, we have two ears and one mouth, and should use them accordingly.

Suggested titles for young children that reinforce Habit 5:

*The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown

*Stellaluna by Janell Cannon

Expect your child to use words and phrases like "listening first,” “listening with your ears, eyes, and heart," and "seeking first to understand” in his/her conversations this week. You can encourage your child by using some of this language at home. You may have an opportunity to share your feelings with your child about Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood.

Check out the "Parent's Place” at www.TheLeaderin for fun ways to bring the habits home.
