NEXT BOND OPEN HOUSE
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT BOND SUMMARY
In the February 2016 Special Election, voters will be asked to vote on a renovation bond serving the needs of the Goldendale School District students.
A Capital Improvement Facilities bond will provide much needed improvements to our facilities. The high school was built in the mid 70’s and the current HVAC system that we are using is at the end of its life cycle. We are proposing that we change to roof top units that will save us an estimated $850,000 as compared with updating the current system and this will best meet the heating and air conditioning needs of our students and staff in the future. This will also save costs in the future if individual units need to be replaced.
A multipurpose gymnasium is planned to meet the needs of our students and community for the expanding use of school facilities. There are many, many groups that are requesting time for our gymnasiums and the addition of this space will alleviate the lack of availability. This space will help house many activities including wrestling, P.E. classes, possible drama performances, daily robotics work area and robotics competitions, volleyball/basketball tournaments and other activities for our schools and community.
The locker rooms at our high school have exceeded their life cycle. This area needs to be completely reformatted to meet the current needs and safety of our students and community. The high school library will become enclosed so that we can use it more efficiently on a daily basis for credit retrieval and state testing in a secure, quiet area. A safe bus loading area will be created for primary school students; this has been a safety concern for the district. There are many other projects for our schools included in this bond request.
