Temperature VS. X Final Project: Summer School 2011
Worktime- Wed/Thur
Final Presentations- Friday
We have spent the last few days looking at how temperature is affected by a variety of variables. Temperature is a useful measurement because it is so fundamental. Your project is to investigate how temperature is changed by some variable, and what can be learned from that. Your presentation should be done in Google Docs (to be shared with scannell@gresham.k12.or.us), and presented with the structure: Forming, Design, Data, Analysis.
Some project examples include:
Fish are very sensitive to the temperature of water. How do stream temps effect fish, and what is being done, should be done to improve habitat.
Global climate change is a very real issue- what is it, what is evidence that it is occurring, how is temperature used to make measurements, what is being done to study this issue?
Why is it snowy at the top of Mt. Hood, why is it wet here and dry in Bend? Look at how temperature changes with altitude, latitude, or longitude? Is it different in the Southern/Northern Hemisphere
Incandescent lightbulbs will be changing in Dec 2011. What is going on? Should there be changes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-out_of_incandescent_light_bulbs
Oil, natural, gas, nuclear….These are all important energy sources, but the issues about their use, availability, costs, are complex. Investigate energy use in the context of your home, Oregon, the US, or other countries.
Other- do you have a burning question? Check with Mr. Scannell to see if it fits.
Guidelines:
You may work as an individual or in groups of two or three. Presentations must include:
