Gresham-Barlow STEM Expo
(formerly the Gresham-Barlow Science Expo)
Project registration is open (adult sponsors register projects). Payment for project registration is due at registration deadline:
3 pm, 2/15/2024 (we will send reminders if you need to submit payment)
The GBSE is scheduled for Friday, March 8, 2024 and will be held at Gresham High School. Students who participate in the GBSE will be eligible for awards and advancement to Northwest Science Expo (NWSE) at Portland State University on, April 5, 2024, and the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), May 11-17, 2024, Los Angeles, California.
All projects must register by February 15, 2024 by 3 pm (review begins at 3:30 pm) and have an adult sponsor. Details below.
What is the Gresham-Barlow STEM Expo (GBSE)? (Link to Printable Copy)
The Gresham-Barlow Science Expo is one of 7 regional science expos that are affiliated with the Society for Science & the Public International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). The top third of projects from the GBSE qualify for the Northwest Science Expo (NWSE), the state-level science research competition for Oregon. Three projects from the GBSE and ~6 projects from the NWSE will qualify to compete at ISEF.

Check out information about NWSE and ISEF, review NWSE Rulebook, find an adult sponsor, determine eligibility for fair location, determine SRC procedure for your project (LINK).
Students should complete online registration and submit their research plan for approval BEFORE collecting data.
See ISEF 2024 Rules and Guidelines; after research plan approval, students can begin data collection.
Project Registration: All projects must register by 3 pm on February 15, 2024.
Projects can only be registered through the Affiliated Fairs Online Registration (AFOR) website, and registrations must be done by the Adult Sponsor. https://nwse.org/online-registration/
Registration Fee
The registration fee is $20/project. If you are a GBSD student, your fee is paid by a generous grant from the Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation. If you are a Portland Public Schools Student, PPS will pay your registration fee. If you are not a GBSD or PPS student, you can pay in one of the following ways.

Make Checks payable to PSU Foundation. Please put the student's name and/or project number in the check memo field. Mail to: NWSE-GBSE, PO Box 311, Banks, OR 97106.

9:00-10:15 Welcome and Announcements/Open time/Engineering Design Contest (Cafeteria)
Students may use time to practice, relax or participate an
Engineering design competition.
(Judges are reviewing projects without students;
only Judges are allowed in the Aux Gym at this time)
10:30-12:30 Judging
(Student and Judges only allowed in the Gym)
12:30-1:30 Free Time (Lunch on your own, restaurants nearby)
Open to the Public: Viewing Session-Science Circus-Awards
1:30-2:30 Exhibit Area Open to the Public (Gym)
(Students should be at their projects)
2:30-3:15 Science Circus (Auditorium)
3:15-4:00 Awards Presentation (Auditorium)

8:00-8:30 Coffee/Continental Breakfast Library (2nd floor; elevator near front office)
8:30-9:00 Orientation Library
9:00-10:30 Judges only allowed in the Gym)
10:30-12:30 Judging (Student and Judges only allowed in the East Gym)
12:30-1:30 Lunch and deliberations Library
1:30-2:30 ISEF Judging (only ISEF judges)
