September 27, 2009 was the first meeting of the “Green Bellevue Committee” which then formed the 501c3 non-profit organization known as Green Bellevue. The group's vision is “to be a sustainable, grass-roots organization educating and empowering people to undertake programs that beautify our community, promote healthy lifestyles, preserve our natural resources and honor our environment”.

The first anniversary was celebrated on Sunday, September 26, 2010 with a potluck held at Faulkland Park to celebrate the one year milestone of the first organizational meeting of the Green Bellevue committee, conceived by Mayor Gary Mixan and led by Councilman Don Preister. The tenth anniversary was celebrated on Saturday, September 28, 2019 with an organic, vegan potluck held at Washington Park.

A co-founder and advocate, Lisa Swanson, created a 10th anniversary photo montage to mark the occasion.
