Celebrate the environment at Sarpy County Earth Day this Sunday, 4/29!

Sarpy County Earth Day – Sarpy's biggest eco-celebration – is almost here! Come out for an afternoon filled with fun and educational activities showcasing environmentally-friendly practices. The event is indoors and outdoors and there is fun for all ages!
  • 5K FUNdraiser Run/Walk - 10:30am
    You can register late in the BPS Lied Activity Center lobby between 9-9:45am. An opening yoga stretch for runners takes place from 10-10:20am.The timed race begins at 10:30am. 
  • Environmental Expo - 12-4pm
    Visit with exhibitors and vendors representing local organizations, businesses, and schools to learn about everything from recycling to renewable energy. Also, see an environmental art exhibit by local photographer Alex Wiles. See the list of exhibitors here.
  • Youth Activities - 12-4pm
    Children will be able to take part in a pollinator planting activity, recycle relay race, storytelling, and learn about water conservation. Plus, there will be live animals, face painters, and a bounce house!
  • Teen Activities - 12-4pm
    Teens can win cash prizes by completing a "Scavenge for the Earth" scavenger hunt between 12:30-2:30pm. Plus, get a henna tattoo and complete an obstacle course!
  • Food - 11:30am-4pm
    There will be food from local vendors Awesome Eggrolls and The Uptown Bakery. Plus, coffee from Hype Bike Coffee Co. Come for lunch!
  • Educational Speakers (see schedule)
    Join us at the main stage to hear short presentations about recycling and eco-friendly autos! 
  • Electronics Recycling Collection 12-4pm
    Drop off your unwanted or broken electronics at the Cross Electronics Recycling collection in the parking lot. Bring anything with a cord, battery or motor! There is a small fee for CRT screens and alkaline batteries.
  • Eco-Auto Showcase - 12-4pm
    If you want to know what's new in Eco-Friendly automobiles, make sure to check out the variety of hybrid and electric cars on hand (Tesla included)!
  • Tiny House Tour - 12-4pm
    Have you ever wondered what it is like to stand inside a Tiny House? Meet BigFamTinyLife and tour their main Tiny House on wheels!
  • Trashion Show - 3pm
    Come see the latest fashions on the green carpet. Youth groups will be modeling outfits made out of recycled items in this friendly competition. See all of the creative ways to reuse "trash."
  • Bring Your Used Markers and Athletic Shoes for Recycling 
    Bring your used athletic shoes, old markers, and dry erase markers for recycling! 
  • Environment Champions (see schedule)
    We will be acknowledging this year's Environment Champions on stage. Meet the volunteers who have demonstrated outstanding work in promoting sustainable, green practices.
  • #PassUpPlastics
    We are celebrating this year's national Earth Day Network campaign to End Plastic Pollution - #PASSUPPLASTICS. There will be displays bringing attention to the prevalence of plastic littering our landscape, and prizes and handouts designed to help you replace the plastics in your life.
