The Health Science Education (HSE) Program at Robbinsville High School is a part of Career and Technical Education (CTE). We are proud to be able to prepare students for their bright futures in healthcare. Any student at RHS with an interest in healthcare is welcome in this program!

Mrs. Andrea Adams and Mrs. Chastity Sellers are the current RHS Health Science Educators.  
Below you will find a brief description of each course offered in the Health Science Education Program.


Health Team Relations

Recommended: 9th 

Prerequisite: None

       Health Team Relations is an introductory course for freshman interested in the health field or undecided about their future career choice.

This class includes medical terminology, history of healthcare, careers in healthcare and many more!

 




 Health Science I

Taught : First Semester Only

Recommended: 10th

Prerequisite: None

The  curriculum is anatomy and physiology.  Student’s will learn about every human body system in this course.

Student’s will do many hands on projects in this course such as building a heart model.

Student’s who take this course may receive articulated credit for Medical Terminology I & II for college.

Health Science II

Recommended: 11th or 12th

Prerequisite: Health Science I

This course is designed to help students understand the trends in today’s healthcare system. In this course students will explore legal and ethical issues, concepts of teamwork, communication and many more!

Student’s who take this course will participate in a Job Shadowing experience at the local nursing home.

Student’s who take the Honors HSII class will  complete a professional portfolio.

Biomedical Technology I

Recommended: 10th, 11th, or 12th

Prerequisite: None

This course helps students explore current healthcare practices using technology.

 In this course students will explore topics such as        forensic medicine, infectious diseases, organ transplants, and many more!

 

Nursing Fundamentals- Mrs. Adams

Nursing Fundamentals - Mrs. Sellers

Recommended: 11th or 12th

Students must be 16 1/2 years old to take this course.

Prerequisite: Health Science I & II

This course prepares student’s to perform basic personal care nursing skills.   

Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to take the State Assessment Competency exam to obtain their Nurse Aide I Certification

This course requires a clinical internship in a long term care facility of no less than 40 hours.

Hands on care with patients will be performed during the clinical internship.

Pharmacy Technician

This course must be taken in Second Semester of 12th grade.

Prerequisite: Health Science II

This course is designed to prepare high school seniors for a career as a Pharmacy Technician.

In this course students will  explore federal law, medications used in major body systems, medication    calculations, and pharmacy operations. 


Students who successfully complete this course and after graduation are eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.

This course will require a clinical internship at a local pharmacy.
