Red Ribbon Week!!

posted Oct 18, 2018, 2:27 PM by Jean Ebel   [ updated Oct 18, 2018, 3:03 PM ]

"WES is sponsoring a Red Ribbon Week Celebration next week October 22 - October 25. CLICK HERE for Red Ribbon Dress up days!

WHAT IS RED RIBBON WEEK?
It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Show your personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon. “Red Ribbon Week is a chance to be visible and vocal in our desire for a drug-free community,” Research shows that children are less likely to use alcohol and other drugs when parents and other role models are clear and consistent in their opposition to substance use and abuse.”

WHY?
The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered Kiki Camarena, a DEA agent, in 1985. This began the continuing tradition and displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a DRUG-FREE AMERICA."

Lego League!!

posted Oct 18, 2018, 2:18 PM by Jean Ebel   [ updated Oct 18, 2018, 2:49 PM ]

LEGO League Jr. Registration Open
Students in 5K through 3rd grade and parent coaches can register for the 2018-19 LEGO League Jr. season now through Nov. 2. The registration fee is $20. Click here for information about how to register. Teams will be announced in early December. The coach determines the meeting day, time, and location. Your child’s coach will contact you in December to find a day/time that works for the team. If your child can’t attend on the chosen day/time, we will make every effort to move your child to another team.

FIRST LEGO League Jr. is an international program for children in 5K - 3rd grade. It's hands-on and engages children through experimentation and a culture of sharing and learning from others. It goes beyond just “playing with LEGOs”.  After a 12-week season that includes research, building and computer programming, teams have the opportunity to showcase their project at the Grafton LEGO Expo on April 6.

Grafton also has several FIRST LEGO League teams for students in 4th - 8th grade. The season starts in August and ends in November. Registration for the 2019-20 season will start in May 2019.
