My name is Emily Kallio, and I am a Physical Education teacher at John Long Middle School. 2017-2018 will be my third year in Grafton! I enjoy being here and to getting to know the student population as well as the families and community members. I have been teaching Physical Education, Health and Adaptive Education since 2002 after graduating from UW-Whitewater. I previously taught at Mahone Middle School in Kenosha, Wisconsin for 12 years. I had the privilege of starting my career when the school was just being opened and was responsible for designing and implementing many of the new programs, not only for the classes I taught, but also as the head track coach. One of the core components of my curriculum was fitness education. I am a firm believer in the benefits of lifelong physical fitness and how it plays a key role in the general, social and emotional health and wellness of children and adults. I look forward to bringing my experience and passion for fitness to the students here at John Long.

My interest in fitness extends into my personal life as well, as I am an active runner who competes in races throughout the year. I also regularly practice Yoga, Pilates, Barre, kick-boxing and weight training. I love to travel and hike. When I'm not pushing myself physically, I love to spend time with my family which includes my husband, 2 beautiful daughters (ages 7 and 3) and dog (boxer) Minnie.
