Welcome to the JLMS 4N6 page!

Forensics is an extracurricular activity available to any student in grades 6-8 with the goal of developing communication skills and self-confidence through opportunities for participation and success in public speaking.

Forensics participants prepare an oral presentation with the help of a Forensics coach. At Forensics meets they perform with other students who have prepared for the same category. The students are evaluated by trained judges according to a set of criteria for each category. At the end of a meet, participants will have earned either participation ribbons or trophies. Critique sheets are given to each student on the Monday following the meet. The information is used to help prepare and improve for the next meet.

Practice times are arranged with each student's coach for November and December.  The practices can be before or after school and should only take 15 minutes per practice.  In November we are asking students to find their piece and have their category picked. Group practices will start in January on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45 until 4:15.  We will continue to offer practices on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays as well for students that cannot make Tuesday or Thursday practice.  They can set up an individual practice with either Mr. Jackson or Mr. Anderson.

The meet schedule will be provided at the beginning of the season.  There are usually about 6 meets that we attend including the State Tournament.  Forensics meets are held after school on Friday or on Saturday mornings.
