John Long Middle School Choirs

The holiday season is past, and with its passing comes the anticipation of Chili Day! The February 9th performance will include all of the John Long Middle School Choirs. The report time for the choirs will be 11:15am for the 11:30am start. Students in the grade-level groups should wear nice clothes (no jeans or tennis shoes) and those that are in the extra-curricular groups should wear their group shirt. Please consider volunteering to help at Chili Day and/or bring cakes for the day’s events.

At the end of January, 23 of our 8th grade students will participate in the Lake Moraine Honors Choir Festival hosted right here in Grafton. These students have been rehearsing on Friday mornings to prepare the music and are eager for the event. These students also had a lock-in at John Long at the end of December. They stayed at the school from after school on our last day before the holiday break until 8:00am on the next morning. I am sad to report that only about one third of the exhausted students lasted through the night with Mr. Arendt without succumbing to their need for sleep. I am happy to report that all 23 of these students will participate in the Honors Choir at no cost to them as the Grafton Music Parents have covered the fees The event is January 25th and there is a 4:00pm concert in the Grafton High School auditorium that is free to the public!

The John Long Middle School Chorale, Cambiata and Treble Choir are preparing to sing the National Anthem on March 1st when the Milwaukee Wave face the St. Louis Ambush. The game will be a lot of fun and the kids are excited to sing in front of such a large crowd.

Students at the middle school are also busy preparing for Solo & Ensemble Festival on February 22nd which will be hosted here at John Long. The John Long vocal program will look to have over 50 events this year ranging from soloists to a 20 voice madrigal. Good luck to all participants.

Finally, a big thank you to the music parents and supporters of the John Long music program. Through your efforts and the efforts of your students, our fund-raising was once again a success. This will go a long way in attaining new music, assisting in funding for trips and helped to defray participation costs to families that may find themselves in need.

Music is a very important part of your child’s education. If you are not currently an active member of the Grafton Music Parents please consider becoming a more active member. Thank you.
