Unit 2: Nutrition & Exercise

The second unit that the students will complete in health class is nutrition and exercise.  According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States.  The recommend "medication" to prevent this is daily exercise and a healthy diet.  Research shows that not only will exercise and proper nutrition help prevent disease, but enhance the daily life of an individual by providing them with more energy, focus, a better mood, and a boost in brain power.  Also the eating habits developed as a teenager tend to continue on as habits as adults.  The sooner we can help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to make healthy choices, the better chance they have of a healthy lifestyle as an adult.

"Those who have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness." -Edward Stanley
