JLMS and GHS device recommendations

Students at John Long Middle School and Grafton High School are again able to use their personal mobile computers or tablets at school.   To best leverage the potential of higher quality student owned devices and to best meet the needs of all learners within a challenging overall district budget, the 1:1 student take-home netbook program at JLMS will no longer be offered. JLMS and the district will continue to offer devices for student use within the school day.  Four carts of chromebooks and two carts of laptops were purchased over the past years for use in GHS.

It is not a requirement nor expectation for students to bring devices to school. The district will continue to provide access to devices within the classroom, at teacher discretion, to enhance teaching and learning. Each year an increasing number of students find the use of a personal device an effective way to organize and complete their assignments. If you were to provide a personal device, Grafton Schools use Google Apps for Education so a device that can easily access Google Drive is important.  Any WiFi capable device will work while an added cellular connection is not needed.
If you were looking for recommendations for purchasing a device, a chromebook is the easiest to maintain and has full access to Google Drive. This list is to assist parents who are interested in purchasing a device for their child.
