  • Welcome to Kindergarten!

This week in kindergarten, we read The Kissing Hand.  We discussed how coming to a new school can bring up lots of different feelings.  The kids shared how they felt on the first day of school, and we discussed how knowing that our families love and care about us (even when we are not at home) can help us feel better if we are feeling scared or sad.  We also did a few activities that went along with this book including making a puppet, playing a special game of tic-tac-toe, and completing a few drawing tasks.

It has been a very busy time in the classroom but the kids are doing great!  They are working hard to pick up on new routines and procedures.  I have been really pleased with how good the kids are at following directions and treating one another with kindness.  Hopefully all of these things continue throughout the year!

Usually I send rest time towels home on Friday to be washed over the weekend but I am just going to keep them here this week since it was a short week.

I will write a weekly newsletter like this one that I will share with you each week.  It will contain any reminders as well as a quick update on what we are doing in each of the subject areas.  I will share this on Bloomz and update it on the website.  I also try to share photos of what we are doing throughout the week.  I am still waiting on paperwork to make sure I have consent to post classroom photos before doing so.  I was able to take a few quick pictures of the kids over the last couple of days so hopefully I can get those posted soon!

Curriculum Night is Tuesday, August 28.  Please plan to attend one of the kindergarten sessions at 6:00 or 6:30.

I sent home information on Open House night about my classroom snack procedures.  I will send a reminder at the beginning of each month to send a class snack to school with your child.  It should be enough for 20 students.  If anyone is willing to donate an extra snack for August, that would help us get through these first couple of weeks before September snacks come in.  If your child has specific snack/dietary needs, please let me know and we can come up with a plan that works for you.

Thank you for all you have done at home to make the beginning of this school year a successful one for your children.  I already think my class is just the sweetest, and I am having fun getting to know their little personalities.  They definitely are enthusiastic about learning which is awesome!  Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.

    Have a great weekend!
