Education:
This is my 19th year with Gretna Public Schools. Prior to becoming the reading specialist I spent 15 years teaching third grade at Thomas Elementary.
Teaching students to read has always been my passion and focus in education. I graduated with a Masters Degree in Literacy in 2012. I have facilitated Engage the Mind Workshops for GPS using the knowledge obtained from my Masters Degree in Reading, and from Rachel Billmeyer research. I have also served on the Advanced Education Vocabulary Committee, led vocabulary workshops for staff development, and conducted workshops on creating Anita Archer vocabulary power points for each grade level. However, I most enjoyed teaching spelling, decoding, and comprehension skills to students with characteristics of dyslexia using proven research-based curriculum. In the last four years I have completed courses with LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) Units 1 - 8. I am currently a certified LETRS Trainer for Units 1 - 4 and Units 5 - 8 in Gretna Public Schools.
Family:
My husband and I have been married for 37 years. We moved to Gretna in 1999 and our two children attended Gretna Public Schools. Both children are married and we have a total of six wonderful grandchildren. We stay busy playing camping, kayaking, and biking.
I look forward to using this knowledge and training obtained from these experience to serve the students at Falling Waters Elementary School.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Duin
