School Clothing

Everyday School Clothes

Gospel Oak does not have a school uniform but all children are expected to wear sensible, comfortable clothing which should be clearly marked with the child's name. Children are active at many times of the day so footwear should be supportive, cushioned and have a good grip. Children are expected to dress and undress themselves so please choose carefully on PE days (eg. shoes with velcro straps if they cannot tie laces). Children spend over an hour in the playground each day so please take account of the weather.

PE Kit

PE kit for Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 is shorts (above the knee),
T-shirt (not long sleeved) and trainers (for games and athletics), bare feet (for dance and gymnastics). For games lessons on very cold days, children are advised to bring track-suit bottoms and a sweatshirt in addition in case the lesson is outdoors.

Swimming

Children in KS2 go swimming. Kit for this is swimming costume (trunks for boys, not shorts, one-piece costume for girls) and towel. Children with long hair need to bring a hairband or swimming cap. Goggles are not permitted other than for swimmers in the advanced groups.

Jewellery

No Jewellery other than stud earrings is allowed for any PE lesson (for safety reasons). Teachers should not take responsibility for looking after jewellery so, especially on PE days, it is preferable that children do not wear jewellery to school.

Forgetting PE Kit

Kit is usually available for children in KS2 to borrow. Reception and KS1 children may participate in indoor lessons in their underwear - but this is far from ideal. Spare kit is intended for one-off occasions/emergencies rather than children who regularly forget. Teachers are not always able to find spare kit to lend children. Whether they can or can’t this is time-consuming for the teacher and potentially embarrassing for the child. Please help your child be organised on PE days
