GOSA Newsletter

17th November 2017

Dear Parents, Grandparents and Carers

The future of the Gospel Oak School Association (GOSA)

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that GOSA is now likely to be wound up as an organisation at the end of this academic year.

Over the last 20 years GOSA has been an incredible asset to our school.

It has been a highly effective organisation raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for Gospel Oak.

The money we have received has made an immeasurable contribution to our school’s long term success. GOSA

funding has allowed us to provide a very wide range of additional resources and opportunities for the children; from books and circus skills to brass band and Shakespeare. Every child who moves through Gospel Oak gets a better experience than the school could otherwise afford with our ever declining income, thanks to GOSA.

All of this has been made possible by YOU, the parents, grandparents and carers; because you ARE GOSA.

All of you became members the day you accepted a place for your child at our school. Most of you have supported our school and GOSA by attending or participating in a variety of events from the Winter Fair to the

Fun Run. Many of you have recently bought school T-shirts and hoodies and have ordered photograph portraits.

All of these things raise money and help strengthen our school community and help to make the school a fun and exciting place.

But sadly, after years of planning, organising and leading events, many parents who have taken a particular

interest in the success of GOSA, have either moved on, as their children leave, or have come to the end of the period of time they can give as active participants. We are exceptionally grateful to all of them for their dedication to the success of our school.

Sadly, we have now reached the point where so few parents are able to lead and support specific activities that the Gospel Oak School Association will have to close down. The final set of accounts will be filed in June.

For the remaining meetings this year I have agreed to act as Chair and Claire (school business manager) will act  as secretary.

This of course means that the additional provision that you have become used to, including the brass bands, will probably have to stop. Like all schools, our income is reducing every year and costs are increasing.

WE cannot afford to make up the difference so opportunities provided by GOSA will cease from September 2018.

If you want to see GOSA continue into 2018 and beyond now is the time to act.

We need a Chair and vice Chair to keep meetings on track, a treasurer to ensure that the accounts are maintained, a secretary to take notes and most importantly people willing to coordinate and support events.

This does NOT mean a weekly or monthly commitment. You may just want to offer to support something once or twice a year. As long as you are prepared to commit to one particular activity; or just try it once and see how it goes YOU could save GOSA; save the brass bands, save the trips, visits, visitors and help supply us with new books, furniture, playground equipment and toys.

Please get in touch and come to the GOSA AGM on Thursday 23rd November at 9.10am in the Art/DT room.

All offers of help, no matter how small, will be gratefully received. If you can’t make it, but are still interested please get in touch so we can stay in contact with you.

I look forward to hearing from you or seeing you at the AGM

Best wishes

John Hayes
