History of the #digcit chat

Co-founders Dr. Marialice B.F.X. Curran (co-founder of the Digital Citizenship Summit) and Tracy Mercier (Consultant with Responsive Classroom) began the chat as a result of teaching a digital citizenship course at the University of Saint Joseph. In November 2011, both Curran and Mercier introduced their teacher candidates to Twitter and the #digcit chat. What started as an opportunity for their teacher candidates has developed into a bi-weekly chat which connects educators, administrators and students from around the world.

Since 2011, the official #digcit moderating team has grown and now includes leaders from education and the industry. As a team, we welcome and encourage as much student participation as possible. We feel student voice is essential if the message of digital citizenship is to be brought into mainstream education.
