Phillip LaValle
“He had the gift. He was just a natural. He always strove to get better; just your dream athlete.”
Phillip LaVallee was an inspirational SDSU runner who was killed by a distracted driver while he was on a training run Aug. 8, 2013, near his Minnesota home.
Phil LaVallee left Monticello as the school’s premier distance runner. He tops its all-time cross-country honor roll and holds the school’s best time in the 800 meters and the 1,600 meters. He earned all-state honors in cross-country in 2011. In track in 2012, he was all-state in the 800 and on the 3,200-meter relay team.
