PLEASE NOTE: ALL INSTRUCTION ON GUITAR AT ASA IS ON A NYLON-STRING, CLASSICAL GUITAR PLAYED FINGERSTYLE. THE MAJORITY OF MUSIC TAUGHT AND LEARNED IS CLASSICAL.
Guitar Placement Requirements:
Students can only audition on a
classical nylon string guitar. All requirements are in reference to the standard classical guitar playing style (i.e. positioning, fingerings, etc...).
No audition required for beginning level (limited enrollment). Beginning level
only offered to 7
Audition to show proficiency at Intermediate level:
Scales: C Major 2 oct.; G & D Major 1 oct.; a & e minor 1 oct.
Short solo (1/2 – 1 page)
Sight-reading in pos.1
Audition to show proficiency at Advanced level:
C & D Major; a & e minor 2 octaves; G & E Major 3 octaves
2 Solos demonstrating slow and fast playing (1 -2 pages)
Sight-reading up to pos. III
