A Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) and Digital Resource Assessment (DRA) was completed for Google Apps for Education. These assessments included an extensive review of Google Apps for Education's privacy policies and security measures. Based on the results of these assessments, the following apps have been approved for educational use in all school boards in Nova Scotia and by staff in the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD):

    • Gmail

    • Drive (docs, sheets, slides, forms, drawings)

    • Sites

    • Calendar

    • Contacts

    • Groups (for Business)

As part of a "friendly amendment" to the initial PIA/DRA, the following have also been approved for educational use and enabled within the Nova Scotia public education system domain (gnspes):

    • Classroom

    • Keep

    • Tasks

    • Hangouts

    • Additional Google Services

      • Blogger

      • Feedburner

      • Google Analytics

      • Google Bookmarks

      • Google Books

      • Google Maps

      • Google Photos (for teachers/staff only)
