BIRTHDAYS:  We would like to wish a Happy Birthday to 

1.  Free 2 B U will meet for the last time this week on Wednesday, January 22nd,  at lunch in the guidance boardroom.  You do not have to bring lunch     pizza will be provided.  

2.  Orientation for the Volunteen Program is scheduled for this Wednesday, January 22nd.  More details available at the Youth Health Center.

3.  Middle School News meeting today at lunch in Ms. Canova's room S-23.

4.  There will be a "Self Care" Lunch and Learn tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12 noon for senior high students held at the Youth Health Center.  Lunch will             be provided.  Register at the Health Center if you are interested in attending.  

5.  Do you have your own business or have an idea for one?  If you are a student in grades 6-12, you are invited to apply for the Minister's                         Entrepreneurship Award of Excellence by February 28, 2020.  The award includes a cash prize along with an opportunity to develop your business or      business idea.  Please visit www.novascotia.ca/entrepreneuraward.  Or more information is available in the guidance office.

6.  The Gaelic College is offering March Break workshops in dance, music and language and are offering scholarship for students interested in                     attending.  Please see the Gaelic College's website or a counsellor in the guidance office for more information.  There is an application process and         all applications must be received by February 24th.  

7.  Beginning on Wednesday, January 29th, there will be Family Yoga nights held at Greenfield Elementary at 6 p.m. for six weeks.  The sessions are         free and on a drop-in basis.  Sessions are open to all students in New Waterford as well as their families.  

8.  There will be a meeting at 12 noon in J-18 for the Coal Bowl Ambassadors.


GRADE 12 SECTION:

1.  Any potential graduate who is a current or former IWK patient who has an academic average of 75% or higher and is planning on         continuing your education in the Fall should come to the guidance office and get more information regarding the Robbie & Jean             Shaw Scholarship.  The application deadline is February 28, 2020. 

2. Grad Fees are due by February 28, 2020.

3.  Information is posted on the guidance bulletin board regarding the Dr. John B. Stewart University Scholarships.  Criteria is that you must be a             graduate of Cape Breton and a permanent resident of Canada; you must be accepted into a full time degree program and you must demonstrate            financial need and some leadership qualities in your community.  Deadline for applications is March 30th.  

4.  Applications for the Nova Scotia Adopt-A-Highway Program Bursary are available in guidance.  Preference will be given to those entering an                   environment related field of student.  Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on March 31st.

5.  The IODE Nova Scotia Provincial Bursary application is available in the guidance office.  Financial need is the main criteria.  Applications must be         received by March 31, 2020.

6. The application for the Kiwanis Club of Cape Breton Golden K Bursaries is now available in the guidance office.  They will be awarding three $1000        bursaries to graduates from our high school who will be attending an accredited post-secondary institution, full time, in September.  Applications            must be postmarked by Friday, April 24, 2020.

7.  CBU Scholarship Application is now online at https://www.cbu.ca/future-students/scholarships-bursaries/entrance-scholarship-application.  The             application will be used to award entrance scholarships and bursaries.  Scholarships are based on academic achievement and bursaries on financial        need.  In order to be considered for bursaries, disclosure of financial information is required.  For those students who have already received                 notification of their eligible scholarship range through their acceptance letter, we encourage you to fill it out as it will increase your eligibility for             some additional scholarships.  Please see Guidance for more information.  

INFORMATION SESSIONS/CAMPUS TOURS
