ASSESSMENT REPORTING

I will be using both formative and summative assessments throughout the year. Formative assessment will be done throughout the unit to allow myself and the student to identify strengths and weaknesses and what needs to be addressed to move forward. Summative assessment will be done at the end of the unit to identify if the student understands and can apply the concepts expected at the grade 7 level.

I will be grading the students based on the outcomes for the course. Therefore, some assignments may be given more than one mark because it targets more than one outcome. I will be assessing the students on the different strands and outcomes for Grade 7 Mathematics and will utilize the format the Department of Education determines.

Students will be graded through weekly assignments, daily mental math activities, discussions, unit tests and quizzes. Students will be marked based on their understanding of the curriculum outcomes for each of the grade 7 math outcomes.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

- Students are expected to arrive in class on time with the proper materials. See the list of materials to know what is required for math 8. Chronic lateness and absenteeism will be dealt with per school policy and parents will be notified.

- Cell phones are to be locked in your locker during class time. Cell phones are a huge distraction during class. If a parent/guardian needs to contact a student they can call the office. The classroom has a phone if the student needs to contact home.

- Students are expected to respect themselves and others with regard to property and one’s right to learn.

- If a student is absent for any reason, the student is responsible for catching up on any missed work/assignments. Homework can be found on my website or they can contact a class member to find out what has been missed.

- Students will be given a problem of the week on Monday and it is due on Friday before the start of first period (9:12). Students can submit it early and have it checked.

- Students are required to hand in assignments on or before the due date. Missing assignments will result in a conference with the student and/or parent to discuss further action.

- If a student cannot follow the classroom rules and disrupts the learning of the other students he/she will be given consequences for their actions. This may be in the form of a reflection, parental contact, or action from the principal or vice principal.
