Behavioural Intervention Resource Teacher (BIRT)

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board is fortunate to have the BIRT program available to students with significant behavioural challenges who require additional programming to build skills to be successful in the regular classroom setting. These are typically smaller classes with intensive intervention focused on teaching students the social-emotional, behavioural and academic skills necessary to successfully re-integrate into a traditional classroom. Each student’s program is individualized in regards to instruction and exposure to various school environments, and regularly monitored in order to adjust for challenges and build on successes. If a student is approved for this placement, transportation is arranged by the Co-ordinator of Student Services. This program is recommended by a referral from the Program Planning Team to the Coordinator of Student Services for approval. These classes are located throughout the CB-VRSB and are usually small class settings.
