Practice your Bb Concert chromatic  scale.

You should now be playing all the way through your songs and working to the point of staying with the tempos expected.  If you aren't there yet, keep practicing.

Make sure to go to the website and check on study guide #2 AND practice with the practice tracks that have been posted.

Your goal is to be the best player you can be! Make it happen :)

For practice over vacation!

Study Guide #2 and if needed any part of your test from Study Guide #1 that you did not pass w/a 3 or 4 to show you are proficient on this material.

Using your scale sheet, pick 3 scales to warm up with.
C Chromatic Scale
ALL MUSIC should be played through as close to tempo as expected.
Goal now is to give your pieces more personality by following dynamics, articulations, etc.  Make sure you are ready to do that in full group rehearsals, lessons and on your own.

Create a rhythm for your scale to warm up with.  You can use the Bb scale or try it on a new scale from either your scale sheet or blue book.

Goal for all pieces - play through them all with minimal stopping. Circle/star areas you want extra help on when we review in lessons.

Canticum - Work past measure 10.  Find sections that are similar and repeat practice those measures.  Mark areas in your music with a star that you want extra help on in lessons.

Pick one of the other new pieces to work on.  As you practice, think about what is easy for your and what is difficult.  Explain that in your online practice journal form.

12/8 Practice Journal Assignment

Nottingham Castle - Work on the fast tempo being crisp, clean and not rushing.   Try to sing the song in your head as you play.  Really focus on keeping the slow speed slow, and the fast speed EVEN...meaning it doesn't change from 17 to the end.

Jingle Bell Rock - Any part you have the melody (not just holding a whole or half note), play each section 3 times before moving on and if you don't feel it's solid, keep working on it in small sections.
The Tempest - Those who start the piece make sure your low notes are a strong sound but also make sure you have the starting tempo and keep the low notes moving.  Work on articulations - staccatos (dots above/below notes make them short), accents and slurs.
Excalibur - At measure 5 - Flutes, Clarinet, Trumpet - make sure you melody is strong! Percussion, practice on the website with the extra music I recorded.  Trombone practice on the website with your melody part.

Keep working hard - you've had awesome improvement over these last few weeks, keep the momentum going - your concert is almost HERE!!

Nottingham Castle - Work on the fast tempo being crisp, clean and not rushing.  Percussion focus on all your 16th notes sounding the same, again not going to fast and rushing.
Jingle Bell Rock - Play through the entire piece slowly so you can understand all your notes and rhythms.  Mark with star, tricky rhythms to review in lessons.
The Tempest - Light, short notes, use lots of air to support your tone.
Excalibur - When playing the main melody, play smooth and connected.

Make sure when playing half notes, dotted half notes and whole notes as well as tied notes, that you are holding them for full value and COUNTING as you play.
