What is FIRST robotics?

Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to "real-world engineering" as a student can get.

When do we meet?
Our season begins in December and runs through March. Students are required to go through a safety training course each year prior to any robot build. The FIRST event kick off is in early January, with build season through our fist competition in March. We traditionally meet each Tuesday and Friday from 5-8 P.M. and on Saturdays for 9 A.M. - 3 P.M. Members of the team commit to over 100 hours a season in one of four areas:
Programming: The programming team is in charge of creating the software needed to control the robot.
Electronics: Electronics is in charge of making the circuits and the control board for the robot.
Build: The build team is in charge of design and execution of the robot. Based on the challenge they come up with a variety of prototypes, present to the team and then begin their build. Each year the team must also consider the limitations of the FIRST challenge as well as time constraints.
Marketing: Create and promote a sustainable plan that includes an expenditure budget for the year, and a fundraising plan comprised of a mix of corporate, local businesses/organizations, and team led fundraising.
