This year Mrs. Winner will be providing Reading Recovery and Supplemental Reading instruction to 1st graders in the morning.

Reading Recovery is an individualized program in which the teacher works from the child's responses and strengths. In each lesson, the child has the opportunity to connect reading and writing, and to engage in problem-solving while reading. Lessons take place every day for 30 minutes, in a one-on-one setting.

The Supplemental Reading Group consists of a small group of students. We meet at least 4 days a week, focusing on reading, comprehension, fluency, word work, and writing.

This instruction is in addition to regular classroom reading instruction.  This provides extra support  to help them become proficient readers.  More importantly, proficient reading will help students to become lifelong readers.
