2020-21 Membership Campaign Underway

posted Oct 21, 2020, 3:12 PM by Andrew Johnson   [ updated Oct 21, 2020, 3:24 PM ]

As we continue on with a most unique school year, your Music Boosters have been working hard in supporting our music programs. In September, we hosted our “Dine Out for Music” with the Galindo’s food truck, in October we supported “Paint the Town Red” with a merchandise booth and we kicked off our fall Cheesecake fundraiser.

Our main goal is to raise more than $9,000 to support music programs and our annual music scholarships.

How your donation helps our students: 2020 HS Undergraduate Vocal Scholarship winner Cecily Noonan

My name is Cecily Noonan, and I am applying for this scholarship because of my love for music. Through all of middle school, I took only music classes as my electives. This year, my first at Grosse Ile High School, I am in the Wind Ensemble and Women’s Select Choir...I wish to have this scholarship so that I can continue to pursue music, and share my passion for it with everyone I know.

While our fundraisers support a portion of our overall budget, our membership drive is where the rubber meets the road, or, in this case, the notes meet the music scale.

We know it’s a difficult time for many, and we don’t take our ask lightly. If you are able to support us this year to help us provide eight music scholarships, and additional funding for our music teachers, we have several different levels of support. Every dollar will help us towards our goal.

If you look back fondly on your own music classes in school, if you have or had kids or grandkids experience the excitement of learning an instrument or singing in the choir, or if you simply love music, please consider supporting your Grosse Ile Music Boosters. It will be music to our ears!

Click here to go to our donation page, where you can go online, or, if you prefer to pay by check, print off the membership form and mail it to us.

Musical Notes - Fall 2020 - Membership Drive/Cheesecake Fundraiser

posted Oct 3, 2020, 10:28 AM by Andrew Johnson   [ updated Oct 3, 2020, 3:53 PM ]

As October washes over us with a change of leaves and a change in temperature, we are also experiencing some changes in our music world!

First: Thank you to all who supported our "Dine Out for Music" with the Galindo's Food Truck on September 18. Great food and we raised more than $200, which exceeded our expectations!

MARCHING BAND UPDATE: Katie Baynes, our HS music instructor, gave notice that our marching band will be performing at three upcoming home football games: Oct. 9, 16, and 23!

This is a great turn of events for all the kids who have been working so hard on their 2020 Marching Band Show with the theme of "Flight!"

While specifics are being worked out as to parent attendance at the high school field, Music Boosters wants to thank the community for all their past support in ensuring our kids in grades K-12 have access to great music opportunities. This has been made possible by your financial support and attending music programs.

This year certainly has had its challenges including many marching bands and music programs that didn't reconvene at all in our Downriver community.

Every day brings new opportunities and discussions, and your Music Boosters have been adjusting accordingly, to keep up with the changing needs.

If you have kids/grandkids in our music programs, if you enjoyed your own school music classes growing up, or if you simply love music, we are appealing for your help in two ways:

1. Our Fall Membership Drive is underway. We understand this has been a unique year and school year for everyone. A sense of normalcy has been fleeting, and we hope, in October, seeing our kids march on the football field will bring some of that normalcy back.

While band and choral opportunities will take up this part of 2020, in mid-2021, we will be announcing our eight music scholarships, totaling $3,800.

Our goal this year is to make sure all the scholarships are available in their full amounts and kids from middle school through high school graduates have an opportunity to apply for these scholarships.

Our 2020/21 membership goal is $9,200, which will cover marching band expenses, additional funds for the band and choral teachers to help offset extra costs for support materials, and to support the music scholarships. We know it's a trying time for many, and we understand current situations. If you are able to support us, any amount is greatly appreciated.

Click on the following: Donations: 2020-21 to make or renew a membership in GI Music Boosters and your personal investment in music. You can donate online or print off the membership form and mail it in to us.

2. Our fall fundraiser: Cheesecake Time is underway! Click here to choose from 14 kinds of cheesecake, just in time for the holidays (they freeze great!) This has always been a popular fundraiser for us, so order early!

Please get orders in by Oct. 20 with a delivery day of Nov. 2 from 2-6 pm at the high school. On the site, you can order electronically, or print off the form for delivery. More information can be found on the order page!

Thank you for your support and interest Grosse Ile Music Boosters! It's music to our ears!

Thank you, all, who volunteered during Band Camp Week at the high school! The kids looked and sounded great, social-distancing during sectionals across the high school campus and properly distanced while putting the show together on the field!

Your Music Boosters in the time of COVID-19

posted Aug 2, 2020, 4:10 PM by Andrew Johnson   [ updated Aug 2, 2020, 4:42 PM ]

As we kick off our 51st year of supporting K-12 music programming, no one could imagine just one year earlier, where we would be in 2020!
As your Music Boosters, we vow to do our best to ensure that our kids continue to be engaged in music, in whatever capacity possible, this school year.
Fundraising and membership likely will take on a whole new meaning, as we face an uncertain economy and physical uncertainties, when it comes to social distancing and public gatherings.
We plan to work with our Boosters supporters to raise funds to continue our scholarship program  (sisters Sophia and Makaela Mihalko pictured below, two of our eight 2019 scholarship winners), where we provided more than $3,500 in scholarships last season, as well as other expenses for our band and chorale groups. New ideas will be shared soon!
We hope you'll continue to support music programming in 2020 and 2021!
