The SaxaNet Secure Wireless Network provides over-the-air access to the university network and the Internet. Your wireless signal is encrypted, securing your connection against eavesdropping and possible data theft.
SaxaNet is available to all current members of the university community, including students, faculty, staff, and other affiliates. You must have an active NetID and know your NetID password to connect.
There are no service charges for individuals to use SaxaNet. Individual users or departments may need to purchase 802.11b- and WPA2-compatible wireless cards for devices.
SaxaNet is available at various locations across campus.
SaxaNet is part of the suite of wireless networks available through Georgetown Wireless Services.
SaxaNet supports any device that complies with the 802.11b Wi-Fi and WPA2 authentication standards. (GuestNet does not require WPA2.)
Although many operating systems and client applications can be used to configure and connect with a wireless device, UIS only provides support for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Mac OS X (10.4 through 10.6); UIS provides "best effort" support for smartphones and other handheld devices. Step-by-step setup instructions are available for these operating systems.
If you have trouble setting up your connection or using SaxaNet or GuestNet in an area listed above, please be sure report it to your Help Desk. Make sure to note, as specifically as you can, the time and location you had your problem.
