Briefing Paper

The purpose of the briefing paper is to provide the other members of your committee needed information about your country.  Each briefing paper is a bit different depending upon the committee.  You can use bullet points, but you must provide references for each piece of informationYou will send this information to me via email and I will load it onto this site.  Make sure to include citations and bibliography -- DUE: November 18 by 5pm

POLITICS
Who is the head of state in your country?  How long has he/she been in power

What type of government does your country have?

Which countries in the Middle East are your major allies?

Which countries world-wide are your major allies?

What major international organizations does your country belong to?

What are three major political issues that your country is dealing with at this time?

 If your country has political parties, what are they and what do they stand for?

Who can vote in your country?

What is the size of your military?

Has your country fought in any wars in the last 10 years?

When did your country become independent?

When did it last revise its constitution?

Which countries does it view as a threat or does it have conflicts with?

What is the relationship between religion and the government/public sector in your country?

In reality, does your country have freedom of the press, assembly and speech?

What is the GDP and GDP at purchasing power parity?

What are your country's major resources?

What do you export and to whom?

What do you import and from whom?

What is the unemployment rate?

What is the public debt as a percentage of GDP?

What percentage of the population lives in cities?
