Second Grade Newsletter - October 16, 2015
We’ve been blessed with such a lovely fall! One of these days, those mittens and hats that are hiding in bookbags may come in handy, but why rush it?!
Reading: This week we caught up on some skill work and had a wonderful time with a new character, Nate the Great! We all read Nate the Great and the Phony Clue, which was an AR book. Quite a few of us are busy reading other Nate books!
Writing – During our Daily 5 time, we are working on using all known conventions (capital letter at the beginning, spaces, end mark) and making what we write interesting! Some of us are working hard during this time, and some not so much!
The “Needed” party helpers have been found and are willing! Thank you!
AR News: Congratulations to EIGHT second graders who have already made their October AR goal! Several of us have made Mrs. Storm’s 10 point club and have a cool pic hanging in the hall! Keep up the reading, 2nd graders!
Math: Tuesday found us taking our subtraction math test. We will continue to work on speed and accuracy in both our addition and subtraction facts. Practice is always welcome! Now we are spending a little time developing our place value and numeracy skills.
Words per minute goal: In early January, second graders are asked to read a whopping 90 words per minute. There are a few of us who are already doing this, but many more who need a LOT of practice. Reading at home is crucial. Thank you!
SchoolStore.net – Many of you returned the slip with your child stating that you shared SchoolStore.net with friends or family. Thanks! It can still be returned…
Pictures and Retakes – If you want a retake, or if you weren’t here for Picture Day, the date is Tuesday, October 27th. You’ll need to return your picture packet on that date if you want retakes. Thanks
Oooops! I was wrong! The end of our nine weeks is really NEXT Friday!
